Mat Pilates Teacher Training 2025

At A Glance 

The 90-Hour Mat Pilates Teacher Training at Vessel is a 6-week program combining in-person and at-home learning. You’ll explore Pilates history, anatomy, and effective sequencing, as well as techniques for teaching all-level classes with props, modifications, and advanced cueing.

The program includes hands-on practice, a teaching test, and personal evaluations from the lead instructor. You’ll leave with two pre-designed routines and one of your own creation. Benefits include free classes, discounts on private sessions, and the opportunity to teach community classes at Vessel after completion. This program offers a flexible, comprehensive foundation for becoming a confident Pilates instructor.

Week 1: Introduction to Pilates 

  • History of Pilates 

  • Effects of Pilates on Mind, Body & Soul 

  • Introduction to Skeletal and Muscular Systems, Anatomy & Posture 

  • Main Musculature Targeted in Pilates 

  • Principles of Effective Engagement 

  • Enhancing Bodily Awareness & Knowing When to Stop or Modify 

 

Weeks 2 & 3: Poses & Sequencing 

  • Classical Series & Modifications for an All-Level Mat Class

  • Contemporary Choreography Adapted from Reformer Pilates & Other Styles

  • Unilateral vs. Bilateral Class Structures

  • Effective Mat Pilates Sequencing

 

Week 4: Mat Pilates Props 

  • How & When to Use Props 

  • Learning Function of Each Prop 

  • Incorporating Props Into Sequencing 

 

Week 5: Effective Instruction

  • Five Steps of Effective Cueing 

  • Offering Modifications & Advancements to All-Level Classes

  • Importance of Musicality 

  • Adapting Classes for Beginners / Pregnant / Injured

 

Week 6: Practice Instruction & Community Classes

  • Teaching Test 

  • Written Test 

  • Personal Assessment, Evaluation & Recommendations by Lead Instructor 

  • Individual Routine Building & Discussion With Lead Instructor

  • 2 Community Classes Scheduled

  • Additional 10 Practice Hours Scheduled

  • 20 Practice Hours Completed + 8 Observation Hours Completed + 10 Hours Unsupervised Training + 10 Hours Supervised Training Due

Additional Info

  • Every student will leave with 2 routines that will be provided by the lead instructor + an additional routine that they will create themselves and discuss/check with lead instructor over the last week of training.

  • Following training, there will be an opportunity to host 2 community classes at the studio if interested in teaching at Vessel. Lead instructor will determine if more community classes are needed before trainee gets on schedule.

Absences

If you miss a weekend, you are expected to make it up privately at a rate of $100 per hour paid directly to lead instructor. (Every two hours of missed group is equal to one hour of private make-up).   â€‹
